Round Robin

when your body is empty
and your heart thrusting its way
through your throat
all you can feel is the white
hot and freezing on your raw skin
the only part of you still on the ground
is your head, and it's so far down
so far down you're not sure
you'll ever find it again
your eyes start to fall
and your mind begins to spin
and just as your breath tightens
tightens for the last time
the white starts fading grey
and your skin gets a little thicker
and a little thicker, cool to the touch now
but evenly weighted
and lying flat as your heart
starts to settle back down between your lungs
your whole body moves to be full again
you've learned a new lesson
next time you'll be ready to float
